The Five Best Dog Movies of All Time

Dog movies are an American staple. When listing the five best movies of all time you may think that it would be the ones that made the most at the box office, but this leave out many classic dog movies. The five best dog movies of all time are: Old Yeller, Homeward Bound, Marley and Me, Best in Show, and Benji.

Old Yeller, perhaps one of the biggest tear jerker movies of all time, is a well loved classic adapted from the 1956 novel. This is the story about a family in the antebellum south. The father is away trying to earn money. Old Yeller is a stray dog who befriends the family and even defends them from a rabid wolf. This movie is popular among adults and children alike. This is the first movie that focused on the love between a boy and his dog, and it spurned many other films and books with a similar theme.

Homeward Bound: the Incredible Journey is a great family movie. This 1993 film is a remake of the lesser known 1963 film The Incredible Journey. Homeward Bound is about the journey of two dogs and a cat as they make their way home. The animal personalities rule the film. Chance, the American Bulldog, is a scrappy wanderer who tries to put out an air of not needing anyone. Shadow, the loyal and older Golden Retriever is a caring soul who watches out for the other two animals. Sassy, the long haired cat, is a prissy, pampered pet who longs to return to the comforts of home. Together these three have funny adventures as well as heart rending ones in their journey to find their loved ones. This movie helped to establish the idea of animals having individual personalities as many pet owners will attest to.

Marley and Me, the newest film on this list, is guaranteed to be a classic. Based upon the book by John Grogan, this film depicts the lovable but worst dog ever, Marley. Marley gets into disaster after disaster from tearing his home apart to shaking in his boots at every thunderstorm that rolls across Florida. Marely and Me depicts the life of Marely from puppyhood up to old age and the journey he has with his family along the way. The love for a dog that never seems to do the right thing is one that many pet owners will connect with.

Best in Show, the 2000 mockumentary about contestants in a dog show, is a hilarious look into the world of dogs and their owners. This movie is more about the people who love their dogs than about the dogs, but dog owners everywhere will love it anyway. There are five dogs featured in the film: a Norwich terrier, a Bloodhound, a Weimaraner, a Shih-Tzu, and a Poodle. These dogs represent pretty common entrants into dog shows. Their owners back stories, however, are what really brings personality to the film from the over-obsessive yuppy pet parents to the Weimaraner to the quirky owners of the Norwich terrier.

Benji, a classic dog movie from the 1970’s, is a great one for anyone who has ever adopted a stray, mixed dog. This movie includes as a great mystery as Benji works to save two children who have been kidnapped. This film is guaranteed to be loved by the whole family as much as Benji, the stray dog, is loved by so many people in his town. Benji was such a popular dog character that his character was reprised for additional films all the way up to 2004, thirty years after the first Benji film debuted.

Benefits of Watching Movies Online

Watching movies is one of the favourite past times of popular cultures worldwide. Since the internet revolution we have been in search of ways to download movies but after a while this method became tedious and often lead to poor quality downloads or simply the wrong movie being downloaded. With the social networking era bringing creations like YouTube has brought about a new wave of ways to watch videos online. Big movie making companies like Paramount and Warner Bros. have seen the potential here, where people do not have to buy the movie, download it or physical hold the movie in order to watch it. They have allowed for their films to become legally streamed by companies for a small fee or free depending on the film. There are many benefits to watching movies online and this article will explain them to you.

One of the main benefits of watching movies online is the fact that it is instant for people to use and view the movie straight away. When you want to a movie another way you might have to go down to your local store and purchase the movie or buy online and wait for the film to arrive in the mail. Most Inspirational Movies And The Lessons I've Learned From Them

When I think about the most inspirational movies I have seen, I realize that they cut across genres and styles.

Some of them are heavy with drama, while others are more fast-paced and action-filled. However, one thing that they have in common is their ability to evoke strong emotion in me.

If you’re looking for some of the most inspirational movies ever created, check my list out.

Most Inspirational Movie # 1: “I Am Sam”

“I Am Sam” is a story of a mentally-challenged father who fights for the custody of his seven-year-old daughter. A lot of people remember this movie because of the gripping portrayal of Sean Penn, Dakota Fanning and Michelle Pfeiffer.

In the movie, Pfeiffer’s character (a cold-hearted lawyer) is taught a very valuable lesson about family and love. One very intense scene from the movie shows everyone in the courtroom affected by Penn’s honesty. Even the lawyer from the opposition obviously sympathizes with Penn.

To be quite honest, we often take these two concepts for granted. We rebel against our parents and sometimes get into fights with our brothers and sisters; but in the movie, we are also reminded of how love - familial love - can be enough.

Most Inspirational Movie # 2: “Gladiator”

If heavy drama is not your thing, then perhaps you’d appreciate Russel Crowe and his portrayal of a Roman general named Maximus more.

In the film, Maximus lost everything he ever held dear - his wife and his son. He had been favored to become the next in line to the emperor’s seat - a fact that the emperor’s son, Commodus, could not accept.

Jealous of Maximus, Commodus tried to destroy the beloved general. Maximus was turned into a slave, but even slavery couldn’t stop him from following through with his revenge.

“Gladiator” is exactly the kind of movie you’d want to watch if you want to feel empowered. Aside from the wealth of strategy lessons you can pick up from the movie, Gladiator also teaches you that a man can overcome all odds when he is focused and fueled. Keep your eye on the prize.

Most Inspirational Movie # 3: “The Bucket List”

In The Bucket List, Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman play two men who decide to make the most of every day that they are blessed with.

Both cancer patients, they break out of the hospital to do all the things that they’ve always wanted to do, but never did. They created a bucket list and went about fulfilling every item on it.

While the movie teaches us not to take life for granted, it also shows us that it’s important to let old wounds heal - to make amends, to forgive and ask for forgiveness. More than racing expensive cars and eating at five-star restaurants, we should focus our energies on these simple things.

These are just some of the most inspirational movies I’ve seen in my lifetime. There are still a lot more to add to the list, but they will have to wait for another time.

Movie Posters Sells Movies

I love watching movies, so much so that I collect every print poster of my favorite movies. I have that melancholic poster printing of 'Gone With the Wind.' I had to shell out several dollars to get it because apparently it has become a collector's item. I have all those print posters of all the Bond films. I have The Godfather print posters tucked away in a sealed container to preserve its quality. I love those movies and those print posters represent every one of them.

Movie Posters Sells Movies

Land Rovers In The Movies

The settings, backdrops, clothing and props used in movies are vital in making audiences believe the alternate realities they are transported to once the film reel starts rolling. And often, the products or props used in a movie become clearly linked or associated with those films.

Land Rovers are iconic 4WD and rough terrain vehicles, and this reputation is in a large part due to their repeated use in Hollywood blockbusters. Their use on the big screen has impacted their popularity on the roads, and it's no surprise that there are cult followings behind different Land Rover models that stems from their use or role in certain movies.

Here's a list of a few movies that Land Rovers have featured prominently in.

- The Gods Must Be Crazy (1984). Set in South Africa and Botswana, this film is a comic allegory that tells the story of Xi, a Bushman, and his band that have no knowledge of the world beyond. When they come into contact with western civilisation, a Land Rover is featured and many funny scenes ensue. For example, the bushman drives the Land Rover in reverse, and there is an infamous scene in which a Land Rover is winched up a tree.

- James Bond (various). Moving away from the traditional safari/outback style setting, Land Rovers have featured in a number of James Bond movies, including the 1964 'Goldfinger' and the 1995 'Golden Eye'. In the 1983 'Octopussy', the opening scene features a convertible 3-door Range Rover convertible (top down) with bench seats in the rear.

- Outbreak (1995). When a deadly airborne virus threatens to eliminate the human species in this thriller starring Morgan Freeman, Rene Russo and Dustin Hoffman, Land Rovers feature throughout the movie as the vehicle of the mercenaries. There has been much praise from Land Rover lovers that period Land Rovers were used in these scenes.

- Sex and the City 2 - Adding a bit of glamour to the Land Rover's portfolio, a dune jumping Land Rover defender in Abu Dhabi introduces Samantha's love interest - Rikard Spirit - in this Hollywood blockbuster.

Whether it's new or used Land Rover vehicles - in many different models - have been used and featured in a number of movies. The use of cars in movies can inspire audiences to purchase those - or similar - vehicles for themselves.

It's not only Land Rovers that are susceptible to this trend. Perhaps, for example, the use of Peugeot's in the 'Train' movies inspired you to buy a used Peugeot?

Has a movie inspired you to buy a certain car?

Look Like A Movie Star With Ray-Bans From The Movies

Every kid wants to be the hero of the movie. When we’re older, and we’ve realized stardom might be beyond most of us, we learn to want the next best thing: we want to look like the hero.

Clothes maketh the man, or so the old saying goes. While clothes might not be very good at acting, they do a great job of defining characters. An actor can put so much into a role, but it's that combination of clothes, hats, shoes and such that combine to act as their signature. Icing the cake means getting the accessories right. Most important are the eyeglasses or sunglasses a character wears. It's all about eyes—the windows of the soul—because that's where we naturally look first. And so often, you’ll find that a character in sunglasses has covered their eyes with Ray-Bans.

Sunglasses are a shield for guilty and innocent eyes alike, which is why they can add mystery to a part, and help to define the feel of a movie. Case in point – the Ray-Ban Wayfarer. Audrey Hepburn wore a pair to Breakfast At Tiffany’s. In 1992's Reservoir Dogs, bad guys robbed banks in identical black suits with identical black sunglasses— Ray-Ban Wayfarers.

It's a testament to the versatility of the Wayfarer design that while they seem to amplify the cold hearted depths of Harvey Keitel's character as he fires away mercilessly at two cops, they manage to bring equal and opposite charm to the characters of Dan Akyroyd and John Belushi in the 1980 classic, The Blues Brothers, only adding to the sheer joy. (Movie geeks will no doubt presume that both films feature men in black suits for a very good reason, but only Quentin Tarantino knows if there is one.)

Although the Blues Brothers boosted the Wayfarer's image as a cultural icon, this didn't translate into sales, and only 18,000 pairs were sold in 1981. Surprisingly, they were on the verge of being discontinued, but in 1982 Ray-Ban signed a $50,000-a-year deal to secure product placements on the big and small screens, and from 1982 to 1987, Ray-Ban sunglasses appeared in over 300 movies or TV shows.

Tom Cruise wore Wayfarers in 1983's Risky Business, and it's probably no coincidence that 360,000 pairs left the shelves that same year. They were just...cool, in an effortless sort of way, slightly retro, black and plastic, but the more they were used in film, the more moods, looks and associations they gathered on the way.

During 1986 they showed up in high profile shows such as Miami Vice and Moonlighting, and then in John Hughes’ hit, The Breakfast Club. So is it all just hype and marketing? The cynic would say so, but if that was the case, nobody would be wearing them anymore. Wayfarers have been around since 1951, have picked up enough fans to spawn numerous copycats, and have weathered the highs and lows of the popularity roller-coaster. They may take a dip this year or the next, but rest assured they'll always be back later.

Top Movies Of 2010

Year 2010 was a very good year for the box office, some sequels, some new ideas and a whole lot of not so good movies managed to make it into different top ten lists. But there is different ways how do you judge the top ten movies of 2010, maybe profits, quality, content or story? Let's look at two different appraisals. If we judge only by money we get the following list:

1. Iron Man 2

2. Toy Story 3

3. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part I

4. Twilight Saga: Eclipse

5. Knight and Day

6. Little Fockers

7. Salt

8. Inception

9. Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

10. The A-Team

Just how much does a number one box office smash make these days? For example Iron Man 2 brought in 365 million US dollars and set itself up for yet another sequel. At least this movie was actually good, something that Little Fockers can't claim.

But if we take a look a list of the best ten movies according to Rotten Tomatoes we get new list. On the Rotten Tomatoes site both critics and the public get a chance to review and rank movies. When the year ends, the standings are published.

1. Marwencol

2. Waste Land

3. Gasland

4. Toy Story 3

5. How to Train Your Dragon

6. Exit Through the Gift Shop

7. The Social Network

8. Inside Job

9. Mugabe and the White African

10. The King's Speech

Can you notice how many of the top scoring box office hits don't even appear? What make’s a good movie isn't always the finances for promotion, sometimes it is actually the story that movie tells. Just for reference, Iron Man 2 is at 86 place according to Rotten Tomatoes. Of course, not all movies are appropriate to all movie goers, for example no matter how good Marwencol may have been, it wouldn't be a good choice for children.
